The Himalayan combines the long, luxurious coat and cobby build of the Persian with the color-point pattern and blue eyes of the Siamese. Strikingly beautiful and serene, it is often considered a color variety of the Persian.

History
The Himalayan was developed in the mid-20th century by crossing Persians with Siamese to bring the point pattern into the Persian coat and body. It is recognized as a breed in some registries and a Persian variety in others.

The Himalayan is mellow, loving, and quiet, generally good with gentle children and calm pets. It enjoys lap time and soft play, bonds closely with its family, and prefers a peaceful, predictable environment.

The flat face can cause breathing difficulty and poor heat tolerance; keep the cat cool and monitor breathing.
Inherited from Persian ancestry, PKD can occur; a DNA test and monitoring support early management.
