The Australian Terrier is one of the smallest working terriers, bred in the Australian outback to control vermin, tend livestock, and sound the alarm. Compact and rugged, it packs classic terrier grit into a low-maintenance frame.

History
Developed in Australia in the 19th century from several British terrier breeds, it was one of the first native Australian breeds recognized and shown. Settlers valued it for killing snakes and rodents and guarding remote homesteads.
