Overview

The Sealyham Terrier is a rare, low-slung white terrier developed in Wales to hunt badger, otter, and fox. Sturdy and powerful for its size, it combines classic terrier courage with a notably calm, mellow disposition.

Charming, alert, and affectionate, the Sealyham is a more laid-back terrier that bonds closely with its family and makes a good watchdog. It is spirited and a touch stubborn, with a droll, characterful personality all its own.

History

Developed in the 19th century at Sealyham House in Wales by Captain John Edwardes, the breed was bred as a tough working terrier for badger and otter. Once fashionable, it is now one of the rarer terrier breeds.
