The Bakharwal Dog is an ancient livestock guardian of the Himalayan regions of Kashmir, bred by the nomadic Bakarwal and Gujjar peoples to protect flocks from wolves and leopards. Powerful and hardy, it endures harsh mountain conditions.

History
For centuries the Bakharwal Dog accompanied the nomadic herders of the Pir Panjal and Himalayan ranges, guarding sheep and goats during long migrations. An ancient and now increasingly rare breed, it remains a working mountain guardian.
