The Pomeranian is a tiny spitz breed with a luxuriant double coat, a foxy face, and a bold, vivacious personality. Descended from much larger sled dogs, it was bred down to toy size while keeping the spirited spitz temperament.
Lively, confident, and affectionate, the “Pom” bonds closely with its people and makes an alert little watchdog. It is intelligent and curious, packing an outsized, feisty personality into a small, fluffy frame.
History
Named for the Pomerania region of Central Europe, the Pomeranian descends from large spitz sled dogs and was miniaturized over time. Queen Victoria's fondness for small Poms helped popularize the tiny size seen today.
